Whether it's a high-energy activity or a more relaxed gathering, Stonewall Resort tailors every detail to meet each group's unique needs.

We recently chatted with Scott Cochran, Director of Rooms, for more insight into how custom recreational outings are the backbone of team-building here at Stonewall Resort.

Custom Recreational Outings: Tailored for Your Team

The heart of Stonewall Resort’s approach to team-building is customization.

"We want every group that comes here to walk away with memories and a sense of accomplishment," says Scott Cochran, Director of Rooms. "It’s about making sure the experience fits who they are."

From the moment a group books their event, the Stonewall team works closely with planners to understand the attendees' demographics, goals, and preferences.

"We dig in before the group even arrives," Scott explains. We want to know who they are and what their goals are and tailor everything from start to finish."

This means that no two team-building events at Stonewall are the same.

Whether the group is looking for a physically demanding challenge or a fun, light-hearted activity, the resort has options that cater to every need.

"We can make it as demanding or as relaxed as the group wants," Scott says. "And we make sure it's fun, memorable, and impactful."

Building Bikes, Making Drinks, and Cooking Up Fun

Stonewall Resort offers a range of signature team-building activities designed to foster collaboration and create lasting memories.

One of the most popular options is the Build a Bike program, in which participants work together to assemble bikes that are later donated to a charity of their choice.

"It’s not just about building a bike—it’s about making a difference," Scott explains. "We even bring in a representative from the charity to speak to the group, so they understand the impact they’re making."

Another favorite is the mixology competition, where teams create and compete for the title of best drink. "These are always fun," Scott says with a smile. "As a judge, I get to see the creativity and competitive spirit come alive."

Stonewall offers a chili cook-off for groups that prefer food-centric activities. The event challenges teams to create their unique recipe from scratch. "We provide everything they need, from turkey and beef to more exotic options like boar," Scott explains. It’s a lot of fun, and the results are always interesting!"

Creating Emotional Impact: The Power of Giving Back

One of Stonewall Resort's most impactful team-building experiences involves giving back to the community.

Scott recalls a particularly moving event with a group of pipe workers participating in the Build a Bike program.

"These were tough, masculine men, and when the charity representative spoke to them about the impact of their donation, many of them were moved to tears," Scott recalls. "It was a powerful moment that showed just how meaningful these events can be."

This emphasis on creating emotional impact is a hallmark of Stonewall’s approach to team-building.

"It’s not just about the activity—it’s about the connections people make and the memories they create," Scott adds. "That’s what makes these experiences so special."

Stonewall’s Unique Setting: A Natural Haven for Team Building

Along with customized activities, Stonewall Resort offers a unique natural setting that enhances the team-building experience.

Nestled in the rolling hills of West Virginia, the resort provides a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

"There’s nothing like being out on the lake or exploring the trails with your team," Scott says. "It’s a chance to connect with nature and each other in a way you can’t get in a typical office setting."

Scott, who has worked at the resort for over 22 years, speaks fondly of his time on the lake with friends and family.

"On my days off, I love to gather with friends on our pontoons and just enjoy the beauty of the lake," he says. "It’s relaxing, it’s fun, and it’s what Stonewall is all about—friends, family, and good times."
